Summer + Swim Haircare
How to take care of your hair in the most damaging season!
Enjoying the pool, beach, sun, and heat is of course on everyone’s to-do list for the summer! BUT, similarly to how this season affects our skin, it can also do a number on our hair!
So let’s protect!
Pre-Care
One of the first steps, and perhaps the easiest, is to make sure you’re already using a Salon quality, hydrating Shampoo and conditioner. Typically, any line that you HAVE TO purchase from a salon or hairstylist is going to be the best quality!
I LOVE the 7seconds Line by Unite! It’s moisture enriched, protects from UV rays, thermal damage, and color fading!
It’s a great shampoo that can work for all hair types, and an awesome place to start if you’re new to salon quality care!
In addition to Shampoo & Conditioner, another VERY important PRE-CARE step is to use an oil!
But not all oils are created equal.. Lots of oils on the market are made with molecules that are too large for your hair to absorb. Which means it’s going to coat the top of your hair, and then wash right off leaving buildup behind. NOT what we want!
A good oil will work from within to provide moisture and seal it in.
I use the Unite Uoil or Blonda Oil because they are extremely lightweight and melt into your skin and hair! They also provide UV protection which is a unique added bonus!
Now, if you are going to embrace jumping in the pool… There’s one way to AVOID the dreaded GREEN, CRUNCHY, POOL HAIR!
And that is Pretreating with 7Seconds Leave in Detangler by Unite
What happens when we swim, is that our hair absorbs all the chemicals, chlorine, minerals and salt from the water. This is the key factor that leaves us with that green tint and brittleness.
Spraying the 7seconds Detangler in your hair PRIOR TO getting in the water, will ensure that your hair absorbs the conditioner INSTEAD of all the nasty chemicals! It is a game changer when it comes to the pool and your hair will thank you!
As for ways to wear your hair while swimming, I recommend a loose braid or two! And if you have permanent extensions, a bubble braid is a great option! These styles will keep your hair from getting massively tangled!
if you’re planning to not really get your hair wet, I love the BOBBLE Hair Ties. They don’t leave creases, and are soft on the hair! Not to mention make for easy buns!
BUT if you will be swimming or enjoying any water sports, I recommend RIBBON Hair Ties. They are soft on your hair, because they don’t have the traditional rubber elastic. And in my experience tend to stay in better than the bobble if you’re going to be boating, tubing, crashing, or splashing in the water!
Last but not least, if you’re wanting to really solidify all the care and steps you’ve (hopefully!) done above, a good mask will help lock everything in!
The 7Seconds Masque by Unite Is a 10 minute miracle that will help restore elasticity to your hair and lock in shine and softness!
